Ambrane 33W GaN Charger Review: The Pocket-Sized Powerhouse?
By The Tech Guru
Chargers used to be boring, bulky bricks that blocked every other switch on the extension board. But in 2025, charger technology has changed completely, thanks to a magic word: GaN (Gallium Nitride).
The Ambrane 33W GaN (Charge 33) is the result of this tech. It is absurdly small—roughly the size of an ice cube or a coin case—yet it pumps out enough power to fast-charge your phone, tablet, and even a MacBook Air.
If the Mi SonicCharge is the "Value King," the Ambrane GaN is the "Tech King." But is it worth buying a charger that’s so small you might lose it? I replaced my bulky laptop brick with this tiny pebble to find out.
Design & Size: It Disappears in Your Pocket
This is the main reason you buy this charger.
The Size: It is 50% smaller than a standard 33W charger. You can toss it into the coin pocket of your jeans, and you won't even feel it.
The "Extension Cord" Test: Because it is so compact, it never blocks the switch next to it. If you live in a hostel with crowded power strips, this is a lifesaver.
Build: It has a matte finish that resists scratches and feels premium.
Performance: The "PPS" Advantage (Crucial for Samsung)
This is where the Ambrane beats the Mi 33W charger.
PPS Support: It supports Programmable Power Supply (PPS). This is the specific technology Samsung uses for its "Super Fast Charging."
Result: If you plug in a Samsung Galaxy M35, F54, or S21 FE, this charger will trigger the blue "Super Fast Charging" ring. The Mi charger (which lacks PPS) will only give you standard "Fast Charging."
For iPhone/Pixel: It supports standard Power Delivery (PD), meaning it charges iPhones (20W-27W) and Pixels at full speed.
For MacBook Air: Yes, 33W is enough to charge a MacBook Air (M1/M2) slowly while you work. It’s a great emergency backup for your laptop.
Heat Management (The GaN Magic)
You might think a tiny charger pushing 33W would get red hot.
The Tech: GaN components generate less heat than silicon ones.
Real World: Even after charging my phone from 0% to 100%, the Ambrane brick was only warm to the touch, never hot. It is safer to leave plugged in overnight than cheap plastic adapters.
What’s Missing? (The Cost of Compactness)
No Cable: Unlike the Mi charger, the Ambrane box contains only the adapter. You need to buy a Type-C to Type-C cable separately if you don't have one.
Single Port: To keep it this small, it only has one Type-C port. You can't charge two devices at once.
Pros & Cons List
Pros:
Tiny Size: The most portable charger you can buy.
Samsung Ready: Supports PPS for Galaxy Super Fast Charging.
Universal: Works with iPhone, Pixel, and MacBook Air perfectly.
Stays Cool: Excellent heat management thanks to GaN.
Cons:
No Cable Included: You have to bring your own.
Pricey: It costs about the same as the Mi charger but without the free cable.
Final Verdict: Who Should Buy It?
The Ambrane 33W GaN is the modern charger for the modern student.
You SHOULD BUY this if:
You own a Samsung Galaxy phone (you need PPS for full speed).
You travel a lot and want a charger that takes up zero space.
You use crowded extension cords in your hostel room.
You should probably AVOID this if:
You have a limited budget and no spare cable (get the Mi 33W SonicCharge).
You need to charge two devices at once.
If you already have a cable, this is arguably the best, most advanced charger under ₹1,000 right now.
